His approach to counselling is in his belief that “people have the ability to become the best version of themselves.”
Gabriel’s first career began as a medical doctor in the Dominican Republic. Becoming more aware of the personal and social barriers that contributed to an individual’s well-being and their community, he found himself in more advocacy roles as a medical doctor and it became more apparent that his talents, insights, and capabilities would be of greater service on the personal and direct front in helping individuals, relationships, and families from a counselling perspective.
Gabriel’s biggest passion is in working with individuals and families struggling with their queer and cultural identities, he often deals with:
From an Adlerian psychology and social justice positive stance, he comes to the session from an authentic, congruent, compassionate place for his clients. His goal is to provide an affirming space to clients with multiple backgrounds and identities, and be alongside their journey of self-discovery, authenticity, and place of belonging. Addressing the question: Who am I?
In addition, he has volunteered with the Health Initiative for Men (HIM) in Vancouver, working with men who hustle, has also been an instructor for Youth Empowerment Seminars (YES), and had significant training for a year at Clear Counselling working with a variety of clients. Gabriel truly brings an unconditional positive regard to clients, with the aim to empower, strengthen, and help shine insight to a client’s personal resilience, which he believes is “necessary for clients to find within themselves in order to live a life of full authenticity.”
When sitting across from Gabriel, you’ll be met with a light-hearted, but focused, supportive approach to counselling. From a positive Adlerian perspective, he is exceptionally skilled to help you connect with your more authentic integrated self and gain a sense of belonging. Working with sadness, fear, exhaustion, and anxiety is hard, but he uses humour and honesty to help you work through personal barriers while developing your life skills, and inner strength.
He believes that everyone’s unique personality and experiences give the world depth and colour with the goal of discovering your living truth and what it is you want in life.
Gabriel is accepting clients by request in English and Spanish.
