ABOUT

Gabriel is a Dominican Medical Doctor and a current Counsellor in Practicum from Adler University. He decided to leave his position as medical doctor in the Dominican Republic to pursue a career in a field more oriented towards social justice and advocacy in order to provide better support to people disenfranchised financially, socially, or by personal barriers.

 

Past work includes:

  • Volunteering to renovate and supply the HIV-AIDS department of the children’s hospital “Robert Reid Cabral” in the Dominican Republic
  • Teaching students at an Urban High School in the Dominican Republic stress management, mindfulness and breathing techniques to reduce stress and manage their negative emotions
  • Liaison between the students and parents as well to strengthen their relationship and helped the parents be more understanding and patient with their children

 

More recent work includes:

  • Support and well-being interventions for male sex workers in Vancouver, as part of the Health Initiative for Men Hustle Program
  • Co-founding the Vancouver Adler University Pride Society and being on the Adler University Diversity and Inclusion Committee.
  • Support for people in crisis working at the Crisis Centre, Vancouver

He considers that building a relationship with openness and no judgment creates a comfortable and safe space for the individual and families. He understands that individuals are the experts in their lives and encourages them to explore it from a different perspective. Allowing clients to see their life through a different lens to understand it better, while focusing on helping individuals navigate their true self and live a more accepting and non-judgemental life.

 

Gabriel believes that everyone’s unique personality is what makes the world an amazing place and encourages you to discover your true self and what is it that you want in life.
